Mass Cultural Council

Boston Singer's Resource is sponsored in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMITTING ARTICLES:

Content: BSR welcomes contributions on all newsworthy subjects related to singing in New England. Articles and article/interviews must meet our mission of 'promoting and supporting New England classical singers and those interested in classical singing.' Articles and article/interviews must be newsworthy as well as regionally based (BSR is not interested in printing information about nationally known or generally known subject matter). Articles and article/interviews should include information about a person, company, place, or event of uniqueness and/or stature happening in the New England area. Examples of previously published BSR articles can be found on the BSR website: http://www.bostonsingersresource.org/articles.asp

Interviews: All interviews for BSR must have prior permission of the BSR Executive Staff before contact with the interviewee is established. Under no circumstances should a freelance writer contact a potential interviewee under the guise of 'BSR Staff' without the prior permission of BSR Executive Staff. With few exceptions, writers may not write about themselves or their own projects.

Length and Presentation: The length of a typical BSR article or article/interview is between 1200 - 2000 words but articles may be longer or shorter as subject matter demands. The article or article/interview should be well organized with a clear stated purpose in the opening paragraphs. Where applicable, the article or article/interview should include references, bibliographic entries, performance calendar information and related website links. Endnotes are preferred over footnotes. With few exceptions, all articles should be written in the third person.

Typeface: Text should appear in a plain typeface rather than italic, script, or boldface. Song titles should appear in quotation marks; larger works should appear in capitals or italics. IPA should appear in slashes not brackets. Pitch notations should appear as capital and lowercase letters with C1 being the lowest C on the piano.

Document: Email your Microsoft Word document to: info@BostonSingersResource.org or US post mailed to: Boston Singers' Resource, P.O. Box 811, Georgetown, MA 01833. Please include the capitals ARTICLE in the subject line. No pdf, jpg, tiff or other image attachments at this time.

Biography: Please include a short biography including your contact information, your education, your current place of employment, and your experience with music and/or music writing.

Permission and payment: All published articles become the property of Boston Singers' Resource, Inc. It is assumed that no article has been submitted simultaneously to or has appeared in another journal unless this is clearly noted. All reprinted articles must include the permission of and the credit to another publication in the BSR submission. Submission of an article to BSR for consideration does not guarantee publication. Publication of an article is at the complete discretion of BSR staff. BSR reserves the right to edit any and all publications. BSR will pay $75 per article or article/interview published.
